You Can't Change That

I clearly recall hearing this song play in the house in the late 1970s. My father had an excellent hi-fi stereo that played music through his two large speakers. I remember that when this song played, dad used to sing it to my mom and do this silly quasi-seductive dance that I'm sure got him laid.

I hadn't heard this song in decades until last weekend when it came on the loudspeakers at the Pacific Airshow, of all places. I was photographing a group of people posing with the Maverick and Iceman impersonators when it came on and as soon as I heard it, my heart leapt. Since I was getting paid to shoot, I couldn't just stop taking photos, so I tried like hell to remember the song, but it soon left my memory.

I was doing something mundane this past Monday when, out of nowhere, the chorus sprung into my head: You're the only one that I need, and you can't change that. My, those lyrics remind me of you! The lyrics are about as deep as a teaspoon, but so sweet and syrupy, and as I listened to it three or four times later that night, I continued thinking about you. I was surprised to see that Ray Parker Jr. (of Ghostbusters fame) had a YouTube channel and the original music video had been posted.
