In 1968, The Canyon Country Store was immortalized as the "store where the creatures meet" in The Doors' number one hit, "Love Street." The song was released on July 3, 1968 and was featured on their album Waiting for the Sun. It was written about the myriad of characters who routinely passed through the store, and lived in and around Laurel Canyon, where Morrison lived for a time with his cosmic partner, Pam Courson.

I see you live on Love Street

There's this store where the creatures meet

I wonder what they do in there

I guess I like it fine, so far

Ms. Blue Eyes and I visited this store just last Saturday at the end of a 2.5 mile walking tour of Laurel Canyon. We were both tired afterwards, but when we walked up to this store, we were reinvigorated and excited to be there. But still store, mind you. We walked around the store for a bit and we both bought a drink and split a delicious piece of carrot cake. The entire experience was worthwhile and I was very glad that I could experience this with my very own cosmic partner.
