Trucks That I'm Considering
- I Am Not

Pretty girl,
I told you that I'm considering buying a four-wheel-drive truck for when the boys and I start seriously hunting, fishing and having desert adventures. Among my requirements are the following:
1. It has to fit the mission, which is to transport four people hundreds of miles in relative comfort; it has to be equally capable on the road as on the dirt, it must provide easy access to the cargo area, where anything from deer, to a wild pig, to a turkey to caught fish will be kept after being harvested
2. It must be reliable
3. It must be a mid-size truck, as I don't want a large, wide full-size truck. Larger trucks can be a hinderance when on tighter trails and are more of a challenge to drive.
Initially, I was considering an SUV and my first choice was a Toyota 4Runner. I had one many years ago and loved it. It meets all of the requirements, BUT, the fact that it is enclosed is a problem for rule number one; I don't want to have to be driving hours with the smell of fish or other dead animals in the back. An option would be to get a small off-road trailer to pull behind. This adds weight and reduces maneuverability, but it can always be left behind if we are going to run some trails and won't be fishing or hunting.
Next up for consideration was the Toyota Tacoma, which meet all of the requirements, but may present a problem because the front seats are notoriously uncomfortable. I drove one for a short drive once and they were fine, but I'm unsure of how much I'd like it after an hour or two in the seat. I think the best thing to do is to rent one and take it for a spin to JT with the boys.

Third for consideration is the Jeep Wrangler, but this has the same issue as the 4Runner in that it is fully enclosed and the smell of dead fish would be annoying after a while. There's still the possiblity of towing a small off-road trailer when hunting though. It would just have to be large enough to hold a deer or a bear.
So, the last and final choice is probably my favorite. It is the Jeep Wrangler Mojave, which is like the Jeep Wrangler shown above but with a pick-up bed AND a suspension tuned for soaking up bumps while you're out in the desert! And it's called a Mojave, our favorite desert! Can you imagine us blasting out to JT in this or on our road trip up the 395? Also, it would easily seat four and the boys and I can stow our fish/deer/bear in the bed. How awesome is that?! I'm curious to know which one you like best. Which one do you find cutest? (wink)
