The evening of May 1, 2025 saw my pretty girl and I taking a short walk from our hotel to The Village, which is a historic restaurant located in Chicago. She'd talked it up well, and it still exceeded my expectations. The Village is Chicago's oldest Italian restaurant and though 98 years have passed since it first opened, it is still owned by the same family. Among its famous visitors are Frank Sinatra (who once hosted a wedding reception upstairs), Mario Andretti (who liked the veal Saltimbocca) and Barbara Streisand, among others.

As soon as we entered, we were met with that old-time feeling and our excitement increased as we climbed the stairs. We were amazed when we got to the top: it looked like we'd stepped into 1960s Chicago! I was happy to see that the place was so busy, and alive. We were soon seated at a table off to the side and located by two small, covered and dark rooms. The rooms looked like where one would go to discuss the details of a mob hit. We were so happy to be there, especially me, because I was with the prettiest girl in the whole restaurant.

My girl ordered chicken marsala and a glass of wine, while I ordered eggplant parmigiana and a beer. Not only were both meals delicious, but the portions were large. So large that neither of us finished more than half of our plate. If the hotel room had a microwave, we would've taken the rest home, but instead we carried great memories back to the room, instead of food. The walk back was nice, and I held my girl's hand as we walked and talked. She's so lovely. Dinner is always better with her.
