Our First Text Message

A few months ago, I told you that I'd found several of our early emails and text messages in my Gmail account. That I found the emails shouldn't be a surprise, as I've never deleted a single email that you've sent me, but unless you are specifically looking for emails from years ago, they'd never come up. Now the text messages were a surprise because I'd forgotten that once upon a time, I backed up my texts to my Gmail account. I only did that for a period of two years, 2014-2015, but I'm so glad that I did!

So, last week, I was doing a search for "National Geographic" in my Gmail account and while it was mostly emails from my National Geographic subscription came up, there was text stream from us that came up, too, and the date was June 10, 2014! You can't imagine how happy and surprised I was to see that!

I opened the text stream and read through through the first 100 texts. It was so nice to see and I imagined this is what astrophysicists feel when they use their giant telescopes to look back in time. My only surprise in reading the texts was that since we first made contact with each other (through that certain website) on June 9, 2014, it meant that only one day elapsed until we actually talked! I do remember that as soon as you messaged me, I pursued you like a lion on a gazelle, but I didn't know it happened in 24 hours. I believe that it happened just as the universe meant for it to, and nine years later, I am still chasing you with all the determination and gusto that I have.

I have the first few days of our texting and I'll share that with you soon. It will be nice to see the unedited versions and you will love reading what we wrote. We were so sincere and positive and so obviously trying to be engaging and impress each other. In this regard, we have not changed a bit.
