Once you arrive and are in my car, we will head straight to our hotel. It's the Hotel Roosevelt in Hollywood, by the way. I've wanted to stay here since we walked by it a couple years ago and you pointed out its historical significance. I remember looking up what it costs to stay there and it was obvious that the wealthy stay there. Well, I sure as heck ain't wealthy in the financial sense, but I'll have the prettiest girl in all of Los Angeles with me, so that makes me so rich that there is not a man alive that I envy.
I was concerned that going here on the first day might not be a rushed affair, but after I moved things around, it fit perfectly. My first concern was that I did not want to just spend an evening here and then depart in the morning and the second concern was that we have to get good pictures while we're here. Issue number one was never really an issue because by the time you land, we'll be able to drive straight there right in time to check in, guaranteeing us eight hours of experiencing the hotel before the day is done.
The second issue was resolved by moving our trip up the PCH1 to the second day and making it a leisurely drive with no real goals other than to enjoy each other's company and enjoy the sights. That lack of urgency to get to San Simeon means that we can check out at noon, which leaves plenty of time to tour the hotel grounds one more time and spend about an hour shooting in the natural daylight that will be coming into our room. Then we will depart and head north.
The average high in LA in October is 79 F, so we should definitely get a drink at THE pool! The pool is heated, by the way and about an hour ago I called the hotel to confirm something: whether people still swim in it during the fall and winter. The young lady responded with an emphatic "Of course! We even have people taking a dip in January!" So...maybe we take a dip?! I'm down for whatever!
You'd mentioned that you wanted to get a drink at the famous bar in the hotel (the Library Bar) and while researching it, I learned that it's only open on certain nights and Wednesdays are not one of them. But have no fear! We are going to get a drink at that bar on Saturday night after eating dinner at El Coyote. My girl is going to get her drink at that bar!
Now, a bit about our room. As you know, the hotel has a tower and also a separate two-story building that houses the cabanas part. We are staying in the cabana part and on the first floor, by the way. It is referred to as The Cabana Garden room and a brief description and some pictures are below. Be sure to click on each one so that you can see more detail. Oh, did you know that every room comes with a robe?! We've got to get a selfie with us wearing our robes after we shower and lay about!
This hotel has so many things that we love: beautiful architecture, historical significance, great location and the chance for us to new memories! Not only did Marilyn Monroe lived there for two years, but Lucille Ball and Clark Gable stayed there, and now...we will stay here!
