Introducing...Owsley

Owsley was purchased today, March 5, 2022, at the Petersen Automotive Museum gift shop. I think I paid $9.00 for him. After the boys and I finished up our three-hour tour of the museum, we stopped by the gift shop to buy some t-shirts, posters, or...something. My plans definitely did not involve buying a toy VW bus, but destiny would step in when I looked at the big display of miniature automobiles for sale and saw Owsley laying on the top of the pile. I grabbed him and didn't even look to see if there were any other toy cars that might interest me more. Nope, this was the one!

We finished up at the museum and soon we were on the train returning home. Initially my plan was to put the bus in my office, where I knew it would be right at home with some of the other cherished things that you've given to me. That changed when suddenly out of the blue, it hit me that what I should do is take this bus on some of my adventures and get pictures of him in various places! Over the years I've seen people do just that with small statues, stuffed animals, etc. What I most liked about this idea is that it's something that we would both like and enjoy together.

Oh, let me tell you about how he got that name; I was hummin Steely Dan's Kid Charlemagne, and his name was made known to me instantly: I'd name him Owsley, after the man who inspired that song! The time period all lines up and I'm sure Owsley was quite familiar with VW busses. Brilliant, isn't it?

Even though I didn't plan to buy a toy VW bus today, it really was the logical thing to do after spending a day in L.A. and having every fifth step bring back some reminder of you. Adding to that was the VW bug and the bus that I saw in the museum, both of which made me think of you even more. I was just missing you today and buying that bus made me happy.

So, it's official, Owsley the VW bus will be accompanying me (and us) on future adventures and will be making his first big trip next month to spend time in Chicago. How much you wanna bet he ends up being photographed while perched on some pretty blonde girl's ass?
