Recently I was reading old texts that we sent each other waaay back in the summer of 2014, and in one you mentioned this song and this performance. I'd never heard of Waits' version before (you introduced me to Tom Waits), so I just listened to it tonight. The bass player plays just enough notes, the lead guitar player was spot-on, and Tom Wait's voice brings out feelings and emotions that this song did not originally have; when Rod Steward sang it, it was a song, but when Waits sang it, it became a story. Best of all, it made me think about you.
