Digging Up Our Time Capsule
- I Am Not

Our last trip 2021 to Joshua Tree National Park was to bury a time capsule that we'd. That day was December 3, 2021. I'd made a video of what I'd put in the box, but forgot what those contents were, as I watched the video. We returned to the location On November, 2022, and dug up the box. We were able to find the box easily enough, as the directions that I'd made back in Dec 2021, were spot-on. It helped that I'd used a large mountain range and three distinct Joshua Trees for reference and also that we buried it only about 200 meters from the parking lot. The directions that I'd made (via live dictation) were "that tall spindly Joshua tree under it is approximately 30steps from that larger tree. We are going to mark that burial site with pieces of dead Joshua trees that we see lying about."

Turns out, the box wasn't located by a spindly Joshua Tree, but rather it was located under a spindly Joshua Tree; the tree had fallen over some time recently (judging by its still-green leaves) and our box was underneath the base of the trunk. I started digging and as I dug, Ms. Blue Eyes excitedly said that I need to step back and look at something when I could. I stepped back and she pulled me to her and pointed to the base of the Joshua tree. The center of the tree was heart-shaped!

I finished digging and reached the box in seconds.

We pulled the box up and thought about opening it, but it suddenly occurred to me that it was getting darker and colder, so we should open it once we got back at the adobe house. Ms. Blue Eyes took the box back to the car while I stayed behind to get a few low-light pictures of some of the surrounding Joshua Trees.

When we got back to the adobe, we opened the contents and were happy to see that they were dry and dirt-free. I was amused at what we'd put in them. Remember, we didn't know what the other one had placed in the box. Ms. Blue Eyes put sentimental things (poppy earrings, a letter, etc.) while I put in a pink buttplug, some sexy-ass panties and...oh wait, I also put a letter in the box. I read her letter first and was amazed at how good it was. I dreaded her reading mine (again, I didn't remember the content) but as she read, I was relieved and even a little impressed with myself. She was clearly touched by my letter and that meant success.
I suspect that we will one day bury another time capsule in the park and it will be interesting to see what we decide to put in it. I am certain that letters to each other will be included.
