Art Garfunkel Shoes

My train arrived at my stop in The Loop at 1210 PM. I quickly rose, double-checked my seat to make sure that I didn't leave anything behind and stepped off quickly. I was so ready to see my pretty girl! Fortunately, I only had to walk a fifth of a mile and I walked into the restaurant where she was waiting for me about 15 minutes after I'd stepped off the train. What a sight she was! She stood up when she saw me walk in and met me with the biggest hug. I squeezed her right back and just as hard. It occurred to me that we'd hug like this again in a few days when I had to return her to her life, but this was great for now and I was going to be fully present while I had her.
We sat down at the table and began talking while occasionally remembering to look at the menu. We were midway through a conversation about something when she stopped abruptly and said excitedly, "are you wearing Art Garfunkel shoes?!" Indeed I was! I was going to wait until we were eating to reveal them, but this timing could not have been better. I knew that she would appreciate the thoughtfulness that went into getting them (it really was a brilliant idea) and her response - I think she got a little emotional - confirmed that indeed she understood why I got them. I love being the source of her happiness. I pulled out my tablet and showed her the slideshow that I'd put together which explained the history of the desert chukka boot and I then I pulled up Google Earth so that I could show her where in Manhattan that the first picture was taken. I'm going to visit that very spot with her one day.
When she was a young girl, she once wrote that she was going to marry a man who wears Art Garfunkel shoes. We are decades removed from that notion and history did not have that as her story, but it felt like we were close.
