A Reflection On My Charm
- I Am Not

Miss Blue Eyes sent me a beautiful email in response to the moon and night sky charm that I recently gave her for Christmas. I read that email four or five times and it meant more with each read, such that I knew that I needed to post it here for posterity. It reads as follows:
What do you to say someone when they give you the moon and the stars?
Especially when that person has given them to you repeatedly…remarkably…romantically….
There are so few places to go stargazing in this modern, populated world of lights and their pollution.
But, there was a place fairly close to where we both lived at the time that seemed to give birth to the rising moon out of a rock formation womb…and where the stars would appear one by one (we would shout, “there’s one! And another over there! It’ll be a clear night!”)
and then suddenly, the blue-violet sky would turn to black velvet with a million-billion pinpoints of light pricked in its fabric….stars!
Some of them shooting!
“Make a wish!” “Give me a kiss!”
And then the milky way with its gauzy, billowing veil would reveal itself.
And we would stand in awe.
The place, Joshua Tree National Park.
I probably never would have visited this place without meeting you.
This place full of stars…
And I would be lesser for having never seen it.
But, because of you I’m not ‘lesser.’
So how do you thank someone for giving you the actual heavens and a charm to remind you of them?
“Thank you for making me ‘more.’”
XO
